SAP customers with complex SAP know the challenges of managing multiple landscapes well. While classic tools like SAP Landscape Management (LaMa) and Focused Run served us well for years, they were built for a static, on-premises world. Now, with the 2027 end-of-support deadline for legacy solutions looming, the “fog” of hybrid management is getting thicker.
As enterprises migrate to hyperscalers and adopt Cloud ERP (RISE with SAP), they encounter a harsh reality: they now require a toolkit that can close the gap between old-school data centers and modern cloud tenants. Solution Manager and Focused Run support on-premises deployments, and Cloud ALM is designed for Cloud ERP, but SAP doesn’t provide solutions for managing a hybrid SAP estate using a mix of on-premises and cloud with a single point of control across both.
Adding complexity, Cloud ALM isn’t multi-tenant by design. The target customer for Cloud ALM is a cloud-centric, cloud-first customer, and one with a single Cloud ALM tenant and single relationship with SAP. This means SAP operations with more than one Cloud ALM instance don’t have an elegant way to see across the entire estate, and no elegant way to manage large numbers of legacy landscapes still in transition. This can be a limitation for the most complex enterprises and often is for managed service providers which require such a capability.
So, what if a summary of multiple Cloud ALM tenants could be combined adding in SAP for Me licensing and support cases? Such a solution would create a unified view of an entire SAP deployment, including legacy on-premises and hyperscaler deployments…
I Can See Clearly Now
The biggest hurdle for large enterprises and Managed Service Providers (MSPs) is unified observability. Most large organizations are in a state of permanent transition; they have a slowly shrinking but critical footprint of legacy systems running on-premises alongside a rapidly expanding fleet of BTP services and S/4HANA Cloud instances. Even though Cloud ERP is the destination, the road there features multiple management consoles.
For the MSP, the challenge is even steeper. MSPs require aggregate health data across dozens of customers for a “Global NOC” view yet must maintain strict tenant isolation for security and compliance. Currently, SAP Cloud ALM doesn’t make this easy as it assumes a single-customer relationship, leaving a functional gap where Focused Run used to sit, but without the cloud-native agility modern teams require.
Heavy Clouds and No Rain
Providing solutions for complex SAP customers in a cloud-transition era falls into three key areas:
- Cross-Architecture Observability: A single pane-of-glass integrating the most urgent health and performance risks across your SAP and hybrid landscapes, anywhere they run. The solution should surface focus areas, pre-prioritized based on system criticality, business impact, and real-time conditions.
- ITSM & CMDB Integration: Modern SAP Ops doesn’t happen in a vacuum, and integration with tools like ServiceNow is non-negotiable. Deep integration with ITSM and CMDB tools helps manage a hybrid environment, integrating service management across legacy and cloud, leveraging legacy system monitoring and health data with Cloud ALM and SAP for Me information in a single location.
- True multi-tenant support integrating multiple Cloud ALM tenants to provide unified visibility and control across Cloud ERP implementations.
Clear Skies Ahead
SAP Operations across on-premises and cloud can be centralized, but it requires the right solution designed for managing complex SAP estates. Cloud ERP introduced additional challenges which require a management layer capable of integration across tenants, existing ITSM solutions, and the ability to manage SAP operations in varying architectures.
