There’s a crackle and spark in the air at Avantra lately, and I’m so pleased to be writing this bit on what we’ve accomplished with the Avantra 26 release. Automated root-cause analysis, multi-tenant management support for Cloud ALM, enhanced security operations and financial operations monitoring BTP – it’s all there, and more. It’s an exciting and innovative release for Avantra!
Avantra AIR
Avantra 26 delivers on two key promises from investments in AI technology for SAP operations: Intelligently summarized, instant visibility into performance and risk information across the SAP estate, and automated root cause analysis with diagnostic and response recommendations.
AI technology excels at performing analysis tasks at scale. Monitoring metrics and activity across a large and complex SAP estate is a perfect application, especially since metrics vary depending on where SAP is deployed. Asking a Basis professional to baseline, configure and maintain configurations for monitoring at this scale is an impractical request – and with Avantra, unnecessary.
Avantra automatically monitors and creates baselines for regular “green” performance of SAP systems. Avantra AIR helps SAP operations teams identify which metrics and dashboards will be most valuable in each moment, automatically uncovering the needle-in-the-haystack and preventing operational outages through early detection.
The best part? Avantra manages SAP anywhere it runs, across all landscapes and topologies, and with a single point of view and control. Traditional, on-premises, hyperscaler and Cloud ERP landscapes are supported concurrently.
But perhaps the most exciting aspect of Avantra AIR is the automated root cause analysis. Avantra AIR draws from decades of Avantra experience in SAP operations, then applies this knowledge to private system information to create robust diagnosis and recommendations for action in the event of a detected error or risk.
Imagine SAP Operations where detection is preventative and automated, and the recommended course of further diagnosis or corrective action are automatically identified by the system: that’s Avantra now! The impact for SAP operations is huge, reducing false alarms and wasted diagnostic efforts while accelerating resolution or preventing failures outright. And, Avantra recommendations enable any IT professional with SAP Ops expertise, providing the information necessary to accurately further diagnose unfamiliar technology in the landscape.
Managing Multiple SAP Cloud ALM Tenants as One
Wait… what?
One of the design decisions behind Cloud ALM, at least for now, is supporting control of only a single tenant at a time. So, for very large enterprise customers with multiple divisions or regions, or for Managed Service Providers with discrete customer environments, often using Cloud ALM means a separate experience and control point for each managed environment.
Avantra directly addresses this with deep integration with Cloud ALM and SAP for Me. Avantra tightly integrates with Cloud ALM, leveraging the existing Cloud ALM configuration as discovery, and automatically configuring Avantra to provide a single point-of-observability, control and policy across any plurality of Cloud ALM instances. Avantra’s built-in multi-tenant concepts fully apply, correctly separating resource access and reporting by tenant.
Effectively, it brings multi-tenant and cross-tenant management support to Cloud ALM. Avantra customers can unify Cloud ALM observability and control to a single point and safely delegate access and reporting to user subsets as required.
On-premises and hyperscaler systems are integrated, too. So, the hybrid SAP customer has a single point of observability, automation, policy and control across an entire SAP estate anywhere it runs, and during any kind of transition or modernization project, even when project and production landscapes span different architectures.
Easier Automation
We’ve invested significantly in automation, helping customers benefit from the value of automation by making it easier to adopt and customize. Our new automation user interface simplifies the automation execution within the platform.
Leveraging Avantra’s depth in SAP, the new interface helps IT professionals without deep expertise in SAP use automation where previously such experience was a prerequisite. The engine provides the tools and guardrails to help even non-technical users make the most of automation safely and effectively.
This deliverable is the first of many new automation and onboarding capabilities planned, extending SAP expertise to a wider IT operations audience, and something to keep an eye on in future Avantra releases.
Enhancing FinOps
The old joke about the cloud being cheap until you get the bill was never more accurate than today. Monitoring for efficient use of cloud spend is critical – it’s incredibly easy to evaporate cloud ops budgets unintentionally. Unnecessary servers and cloud assets, lack of transactional cost visibility and more all contribute to unexpected cloud resource utilization and billing.
Avantra 26 brings FinOps observability to BTP. Monitoring utilization across BTP services, identifying optimization opportunities and operational insight help control BTP utilization and deployment billing.
Avantra 26
AIOps and Root Cause Analysis. Enhanced Automation and Adoption. Effectively managing multiple Cloud ALM tenants – there’s a lot of power in Avantra 26 and for complex SAP shops, an incredible amount of new value. This blog has been about the highlights – there’s plenty more.
